The Mask You Live In (documentary)

Last week we talked about what feelings have to do with DEI. As I mentioned, feelings and emotions are gendered as well as racialized - we find straight white men in particularly are quite likely to perceive themselves as well as describe themselves as “not good at feelings.”

This is not by accident. The Mask You Live In (available for viewing here) is a powerful documentary that explores how boys and men “struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of masculinity” - and how this culture of masculinity negatively impacts men as well as fuels the violence of sexism, homophobia and, I would argue, many other forms of violence that do not impact us all equally but do impact us all.
