What past workshop participants say the biggest benefit they got out of the workshop was:

"Actually taking photos and cherishing each memory with my child! (okay that's cheesy but the truth) Love the photo-a-day project. Also my pictures are much better with all the tips from your webinars!" - Avanee Patel

"The subtleties that you shared from your own parenting/photography experiences. I got the big messages, but it was the small insights that really helped me understand my own photography and appreciate the things that I do well... and not trying to perfect everything." - Elizabeth Katz

"Should I confess I had 5 years' worth of pictures disorganized on various computers ? Now, they are all organized, by years, on one single editing software, and the best ones are ready to be printed." - spring participant

"Realizing how important it is to take pictures on regular basis. It seems to be a trivial observation but it is not that easy. I am really grateful for your passion not just for photography but for capturing life's moments on film and inspiring me to do the same." - Baha Rudin

"Reignited my love of photography - I now feel like I can capture moments, know how to store, reproduce and share. Have really got a lot of joy out of this class." - Andrea Rivzi

"INSPIRATION... after every live webinar, I felt motivated to action (sometimes I didn't get it finished but I was still inspired to start!) I have been meaning to do so many of these projects but was overwhelmed at the grandness of it. By walking us through each of these projects, it made it fun and much less daunting and now 12 weeks later, I'm really doing it!" - Kelley Vollmer-Bruso

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why online? Why not an in-person workshop?

A: I agree, there's nothing like in-person interaction, and I love working with people face-to-face. However, I know that parents are very busy and have differing schedules and I want to be able to reach as many parents as possible at an accessible price point while still being able to provide personalized interaction.

Also, much of what I teach is about developing habits and systems that you incorporate into a regular routine, and a one off workshop limits the possibility for ongoing support and encouragement. A regular series of ongoing in person workshops is certainly a challenge for most parent's schedules, not to mention my own!

Having said that, I do plan on offering some free and discounted opportunities for in-person interaction to supplement the online workshop, depending on the need and interest.

Q: Ok, so I understand about the scheduling, but won't an online workshop be a bit impersonal? How do I know that my needs will be met and my questions answered?

A: I'm glad you asked! I'm taking an online workshop myself right now and it's not impersonal at all - in fact, I think that with the private facebook group, there's more opportunity for personal interaction online than there is in a group workshop in some ways. In the private facebook group I can spend time answering questions from individuals without taking up the time of all the other students, while still giving everyone an opportunity to learn from the interaction as they can read it later.

Q: How do I know that I will get my money's worth?

A: Another good question. Take a look at the list of what you will learn, and consider the value of those things to you, assuming that you do learn them through the workshop. If at the end of the workshop you completed and posted all of your assignments on time and there is something on this list that you did not learn, let me know and I will make sure that you get personal instruction from me to learn those things at no additional cost to you.

Q: How do I know if this is the right workshop for me?

A: This is the right workshop for you if

  • you are a parent of a baby or young child/children
  • you are frustrated with how your photos come out (if they're good, it feels like a fluke) and/or how they are organized and shared (mostly, they're not!)
  • you would describe yourself as a beginner or advanced beginner
  • you really enjoy taking photos of your kids and really want to have the photographic record of their childhood when they are older
  • you bought a good point-and-shoot or DSLR and you know you are not getting the most out of it, or you would like to buy a new camera if only you knew which one to get and that it would be worth it
  • you enjoy sharing your photos or would like to share more
  • you would like to have more of your photos on display in your home, or you would like to have them displayed better
  • you love the idea of creating a photo-a-day project within a community of like minded parents

This is not the right workshop for you if

  • you would describe yourself as an intermediate or advanced photographer
  • you already shoot in manual on your DSLR
  • you are basically happy with the results that you can get on a consistent basis
  • you are basically happy with how you are organizing and sharing your photos online and off, including around your home
  • you are not comfortable or don't like interacting online
  • you want a workshop that focuses on a particular aspect of photography rather than covers a broad range of topics
  • photographing people is not your primary interest

Q: Do I have to be NYC based to participate?

A: No, not at all! However, there will be a large number of NYC based participants and there may be some supplementary in-person meetups or workshops that you would miss out on. However, for the workshop itself, it will be totally fine.

Q: Do I have to be a parent with young children? What if my children are older, or I'm a grandparent, or aunt, or uncle or I'm expecting or hope to soon be expecting my first child?

A: The workshop is focused on parents or young children, but's also suitable for expectant parents (now is a great time to get ready to photograph your new little one!), grandparents, aunts, uncles, or anyone who enjoys and spends a lot of time photographing the children in their lives.

If your children are older (teenagers) you will still get a lot out of the workshop but photographing teenagers requires some different strategies that won't necessarily be focused on. You are welcome to join us though as most of the other tips and techniques will still apply, and you probably have tons of photos you'd like help organizing and turning into keepsakes.

Q: What if I still have more questions or am not sure?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have, and on the contact form, you can also sign up for a free photosanity report and photosanity tips. If you find these tips helpful, you will love the workshop!
